Good Girls Go Bad

David and I try to keep our thumb on the pulse of the music charts as much as we can, understanding that music is a huge influence on teenagers today.

The charts have been in my blog quite a bit lately, with Drake’s explicit Best I Ever Had, and the Black Eyed Peas’ racy I Gotta Feeling both in the top 10.

Earlier this week Dave gave me the heads up about a new song that has crept its way up into Billboard’s and iTunes Top 10. The song is called Good Girls Go Bad, by a group called Cobra Starship (no relation to Jefferson).

David researched the song and has written a Youth Culture Window article about the song, the lyrics, the video and the group.

Here’s just a snippet:

The song employs an interesting “symmetry.” Saporta sings a verse about his coercion capabilities on the opposite sex, and moments later, the female vocalist affirms a very similar sentiment. Like a snake responding to a charmer, the girl plays her part…right into his hands. Take a look for yourself.

(male singer)
I make them good girls go bad
I make them good girls go
Good girls go bad, good girls go bad

I know your type, you’re daddy’s little girl
Just take a bite (one bite)
Let me shake up your world
‘Cause just one night couldn’t be so wrong
I’m gonna make you lose control

(female singer)
I know your type, boy you’re dangerous
You’re that guy I’d be stupid to trust
But just one night couldn’t be so wrong
You make me wanna lose control

The entire article will be featured on our front page and on the YOUTH CULTURE WINDOW page all this coming week.

  1. Here’s the really bad part. This music is addicting. Take it from a teen that has had to clean out my ipod because my entire attitude changes from when i listen to songs that contain stuff like that. My worst problem is that music reflects how I feel and when i listen to rap and pop its because i don’t want to feel anymore or care you know like I just want to be numb. I find that I can’t listen to the songs I like. I love lincoln park (their old stuff not the weird new stuff) but it makes me so depressed and even worse feeling than I was before. When I listen to rap and pop cause i love the beats and the music in them I have a tendency to cus more and come up with a lot more double meaning comebacks that suprize myself. some of that is because of the language and way the students in the school i go to talk (it would make your ears burn 24/7 you cant go 3 minutes without someone saying something sexual or dropping the f bomb. Its not just that the lyrics are bad its that the beats are addicting and all the teens sing it over and over and my volleyball team has good girls go bad and love game by lady gaga on our team cd that we listen to at practice. Its so hard to get away from it.

  2. Well, it’s a really catchy song and I like it, but seriously, it’s REALLY repetitive. You can’t say it’s not! I prefer lyrics that have meaning and describe how I/they feel. I do like Cobra Starship, they’re one of my favourite bands, but this song is extremely repetitive. How many times do they say “Good girls go bad”?

  3. i love cobra starship best band ever and best song ever .it got on ten on top because its a good song.my brother hates cobra starship ,but he likes this song.
