In a world where only 16% of 16 to 29-year-old non-Christians express favorable view of Christians (Barna, 2007) , and only 3% of 16 to 29-year-old nonChristians express favorable views of evangelicals… we Christians should try to avoid doing stupid stuff like this!
Yes, this ridiculous website seems to be real: YouveBeenLeftBehind.com. For just $40 a year, believers can arrange for up to 62 people to send a final message exactly six days after the Rapture.
Sigh.
Wired.com offers pretty good commentary about this. They think “most nonbelievers will be too busy freaking the hell out to check their e-mail. But if they do log in, now they can be treated to some post-Rapture needling from their missing friends and loved ones, courtesy of web startup YouveBeenLeftBehind.com.”
In the YouveBeenLeftBehind.com services overview section of their website they explain:
We have set up a system to send documents by the email, to the addresses you provide, 6 days after the “Rapture” of the Church. This occurs when 3 of our 5 team members scattered around the U.S fail to log in over a 3 day period. Another 3 days are given to fail safe any false triggering of the system.
Wow. My first thought is… whatever imbecile subscribes to this site doesn’t HAVE any unbelieving friends anyway! So who are they going to put on their list? (Probably family members that they have already repelled and alienated by condemning them their whole lives)
Hello people. Let’s model the “Christ” that gave us the name “Christians. Our actions speak volumes.
Authentic lives lead to authentic conversations.

There has been a great deal of buzz in the secular media about my website. Unless the comments were just religious bigotry, I noted them as constructive criticism. I have made changes already to the site, eliminating references to passwords and powers of atty. I was never our intention to scam people out of the private information.
This site began with a thought of how to send an email to someone after the Rapture. We have come up with a way to deliver just that. I you don’t believe in the Rapture then this is not the site for you. I actually developed the idea for my own personal situation and made it available to others like me. I am a user of the site. Programming, tech support and security are not free. I am not trying to get rich. I do need to maintain a system.
I fully support everybody’s right to a difference of opinion and express it. Tolerate mine too. If God ceases to exist in America, then all “inalienable rights” and “all men created equal” cease to exist also.
You’ve got to read this blog post about this messed up site: http://stufffchristianslike.blogspot.com/2008/06/277-crazy-rapture-products-cue-hate.html
at first i laughed as well…but then i thought…what if the rapture actually happens and the world freaks out at the dissappearance of alot of people. it would be nice to get an email from a friend or family member that has vanished explaining what happened. just food for thought….what if this christian thing is for real? It is the only religion that hasn’t been debunked…..hmmmmm
just a thought.
I laughed hard when I saw this site. Christians can be especially easily led, I wish I had thought of it myself. At $40 a pop that has to be worth it. I mean heck, if there is never a rapture you just say “It’s working well.” If there is and it never works, what do you care! 🙂
Uh… I don’t recall any Scripture commanding Christians to worry about being ‘favorably viewed’ by 16 – 29 year olds.
The few times I can remember youth being mentioned in the NT Scriptures was Paul chewing out Timothy for being a wimp and Eutychus falling out of the window during church. At least Tim turned out o.k., don’t know what happened to sleepy.
As far as the website goes – I believe that the rapture will occur part way through the Trib and after it happens no one will be saved, so the site would be mostly useless, but it would be a good tool for working on a testimony to use while you’re here.
Jesus told me that the administrators of this site are going to hell. Who’s gonna send them a note?
